A heavily calendared or coated construction may meet one functional requirement while creating sewing, noise or hand-feel concerns elsewhere.
The fabric specification should connect each test to a product risk. This keeps the document focused and helps suppliers understand whether yarn selection, loom density, dyeing, heat setting, calendaring or coating is the main control point.
- For garment lining, compare drape, smoothness, opacity, seam slippage risk, static behavior and compatibility with pressing conditions.
- For umbrellas or rain-related products, define water-related performance, coating uniformity, pinhole expectations, colorfastness needs and flex behavior.
- For bags, covers and light outdoor goods, review tear strength, abrasion exposure, coating adhesion, sewing performance and the risk of crease whitening.
